Catch up with Peachey Vendetta as she prepares for a solo performance!

Peachy Vendetta is a playful provocateur, always ready to upend expectations with a wink and a smirk. As a physically challenged troublemaker, she shrugs off the rules, turning every performance into a cheeky mix of rebellion and raw flair. A proud queer femme fatale, Peachy isn’t here to inspire—she’s here to tease, tempt, and leave you wondering how she makes being unapologetically herself look so damn fun.

This is kind of my ongoing series of exceptionally sporadic posts - catching up with performers who have been involved in the Act Development Course.

Performers have had about 4 - 5 months to workshop an act from start to stage! Not a newbie to the stage Peachey Vendetta made her solo debut in May this year!

Seeing her onstage again is going to be really exciting! Peachey has gotten into burlesque after being inspired by seeing shows as an fan of the artform:

After seeing several professional burlesque shows interstate, I always wished I was the type of person that could do something so provocative and powerful. At the time, I never thought I would be presented with the opportunity to become just that!

Peachey made her solo debut after having only taken up one course with Miss Kitty’s Meow.

… it was an enormous leap of faith to even get in the door the first time! But I kept going and the more I went the more confident I got and the more I fell in love with burlesque and how it made me feel.

Performing at my first student showcase in a group routine was riddled with anxiety. I have issues with my legs, which results in weakness and tremors, and I was worried that these would get in the way of my performance. I was definitely a little shakey but the buzz I felt was intoxicating and extremely validating.

The following night I attended the showcase as an audience member and was able to watch the incredible acts of the student soloists. I loved the idea of choosing a stage name and creating a concept with my own spin on costume and music. Before I could convince myself otherwise, I signed up for the next act development course and I am now preparing for my second performance as a student burlesque soloist.

Now the part where we get to some quick fire questions for Peachey and to get some tips for aspiring performers!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in the lead up to your solo?

Make sure you remember to have fun and enjoy yourself!

What’s the biggest myth or misconception about burlesque?

I think the biggest misconception for me, and one I still have to remind myself of, is that you have to be a great dancer to perform burlesque.  It really is accessible to all levels of abilities. There is so much wiggle room for creativity outside of what might traditionally be considered to be 'burlesque'.

What advice would you give to anyone trying a solo or interested in starting burlesque ?

If you are wanting to try a class, consider enrolling with a friend or reaching out to an existing student for moral support to get you to that first class - that is usually the hardest part.

If you get to the point where you are even entertaining the thought of doing a solo - DO IT.

What are you most looking forward to about the performance?

Settling further into who Peachy Vendetta is and what she stands for - if you want to be it, do it. And always embrace the strange - it's what makes you interesting.
