My COVID-19 Isolation Playlist
Has anyone else been obsessed with Zoe Sugg’s 30 songs/30 days playlist challenge? My burlesque babes and I have become pretty obsessed with finishing this ‘project’ (to give it it’s full grand title!). Let’s just say there’s a lot of talk of post coronavirus partying.
I’ve got our full playlist on Spotify if you want the most AWESOME tunes to get you rolling while you might be working at home or just needing a lift up.
I also gave myself the extra challenge of trying not to repeat any artists (otherwise it might have been wall to wall Cher).
Don’t read on if you want to browse the playlist and have guess which picks are mine. But here’s my challenge results:
Day 1: Go to Karaoke Song
Walking in Memphis - Cher
Day 2: The first song you ever purchased
Mouth - Merril Bainbridge
Day 3: Song that reminds you of someone special
Do Wop That Thing - Lauryn Hill
Day 4: Song you can’t help but dance to
Turn the Beat Around - Vicki Sue Robinson
Day 5: Song by your favourite female artist
Cowboy Style - Kylie Minogue
(Okay it was a close call between this and Confide in Me. But I’ll take any opportunity to say that Impossible Princess is Kylie Minogue’s most underappreciated album. It really only had success in Australia, but I think it has some her best songs on it.)
Day 6: Favourite song from the 80s
Black Velvet - Alannah Myles
Day 7: Song from a movie
Red Right Hand - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Bonus: Comment below if you know which of my favourite films this is from!
Day 8: Favourite cover song by another artist
Ultralight Beam - Cub Sport
Day 9: Song that reminds you of summer
Kids in America - Kim Wilde
Day 10: Song that you know every word to
This is actually a skill all my best friends have. We have uncanny recognition for remembering the lyrics to about every hit from 1990 - 2005 (when we all stopped basically going out).
So I picked one you might not think would be in my wheelhouse and that everyone should have ready for an angry breakup/rage day playlist.
Caught Out There - Kelis
Day 11: Song with a colour in the title
Blue - Joni Mitchell
Day 12: Song that reminds you of being a teen
You Were Meant For Me - Jewel
Day 13: Favourite power ballad
Keep On Loving You - REO Speedwagon
Bonus that it reminds me of Supernatural as well
Day 14: Song by your favourite male artist
Outside - George Michael
Day 15: Song by a band you wish were still together
Love Thing - Spice Girls
It had to be the Spice Girls, and I”m classifying them as a band not still together because the original 5 dream team isn’t there. My favourite song is Say You’ll Be There. But I wanted to mix it up and share the most underrated Spice Girls song!
Day 16: Song that makes you feel motivated
Truth Hurts - Lizzo
Day 17: Favourite song from a musical
Over the Rainbow - Judy Garland
There isn’t many that I don’t love. If anyone includes a song from the Sound of Music here I”ll vomit in my mouth.
Day 18: Your newest favourite song
Adore You - Harry Styles.
Not new to the general public, but I’m about 100 years behind the young kids.
Day 19: Song that makes you feel all the feels
Dance Me to the End of Love - Leonard Cohen tie with A case of you - Rufus Wainwright (cover)
Day 20: The ultimate road trip song
Slim Shady - Eminem
Day 21: Song that reminds you of a school disco
Jumpin Jumpin - Destiny’s Child
Day 22: Song that makes you happy
Family Affair - Mary J Blige
Day 23: Favourite song with a name in the title
Jolene - Dolly Parton
Day 24: Favourite song from the 90s
Just a Girl - No Doubt
I LOVE THE 90s so this was hard. I’ve got a link here to my amazing 90s bangers playlist if you want some general tunes for around the house/
Day 25: Song your parents always played
My Girl - The Temptations
Day 26: Song that makes you feel relaxed
Adore - Amy Shark
Day 27: Favourite duet or remix
Girlfriend - N’Sync and Nelly.
Day 28: Your most played song of the year
Become the Fool - Parker
Okay all of my most played songs are always the songs I have routines to or I’m using in class. So I’m throwing in a curve of the best discovery I made and had on repeat consistently, a local Tassie artist Tash Parker.
Day 29: Song you never get bored of
Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood - Nina Simone
Day 30: Your guilty pleasure song
Woman Like Me by Little Mix
I don’t believe in guilty pleasures, I think all music choices are totally valid . But I think my love for Little Mix might be the most surprising. So I’ve included a few choices on my playlist’ because Shout out to my Ex is also an absolute BANGER.
Here’s my Spotfiy Playlist if you want all the Tassie Burlesque Crew’s awesome hits.
Because I’ve obviously got too much time on my hands, I’ve set up a burlesque playlist challenge!
